The N.A.H.S.E. Chicago Midwest Chapter Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) was created to build, support, and empower the next generation of healthcare leaders. The program is designed for early careerists who are seeking to develop their leadership skills, explore leadership pathways, and grow within healthcare organizations and related sectors.

ELP offers a structured, supportive environment that combines leadership development, mentorship, networking, and professional growth opportunities. Participants gain exposure to healthcare leadership across a variety of settings while building the skills, confidence, and relationships needed to advance in their careers.

We strongly encourage all early careerists to apply, including those who may not yet see themselves as leaders. Leadership is developed over time—and ELP is designed to meet participants where they are.

Program Goals
The Emerging Leaders Program aims to:

• Strengthen leadership presence while empowering early career professionals to advance within hospitals, health systems, and other healthcare organizations
• Deliver specialized leadership education through an innovative curriculum and dynamic learning experiences in both virtual and in-person settings
• Cultivate a vibrant, supportive community through meaningful networking and mentorship
• Support participants in navigating diverse and evolving career pathways
• Build skills to effectively address career opportunities, challenges, and transitions

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s program specializing in healthcare leadership or a related field (e.g., MHA, MPH, MBA, or similar post-baccalaureate degree)
• Professionals with experience in healthcare, administration, or a related field who are seeking to transition into leadership roles
• Demonstrated interest in healthcare management and/or pursuing healthcare fellowship opportunities
• Strong aspiration to grow within a hospital, health system, or other healthcare-related organization
• Located in the Chicagoland area and able to attend required virtual and in-person sessions

The Application Entails

• A personal statement
• One letter of endorsement from:
  • A faculty member in the applicant’s academic program or
  • A current or former professional supervisor in healthcare or a leadership-related field
• An updated resume
• Commitment to actively engage in all program sessions and activities (virtual and in person)
