2014 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
How happy we are to reflect upon how thankful we are for those who have changed our lives and made them better.
This past year the NAHSE Chicago brings to a close the first year of its four-year strategic plan. I am not much of a fan of looking back - ‘its like driving while looking in the rearview mirror’ but looking back in 2014, the NAHSE Chicago Chapter Board is extremely thankful for your contributions to our achieved successes.
Ethnic and racial diversity within the health care professions remains a national concern. NAHSE Chicago continues its commitment to the vision of improving diversity through education, mentoring and advocacy. NAHSE’s Chicago Chapter has responded to its mission to partner with varying healthcare leaders to better promote health equity, quality improvement and mentoring opportunities.
With you as partners we together have been able to achieve:
• Growth of our paid membership. NAHSE’s Chicago Chapter continues to be the largest Chapter nationally.
• Expansion of our institutional memberships to now include University of Chicago, Evanston Northshore, Rush University Medical Center and Northwestern Medicine
• Partnership with University of Illinois, Rush, Robert Lurie Cancer Center, Advocate, CHEF & ACHE. These collaborative efforts will no doubt allow NAHSE to have enhanced relationships with a broader base of healthcare leaders.
• A full calendar of networking opportunities to include our Chapter Spring Fling Reception at Buddy Guy’s (attended by more than 270 executives and students from across the country the largest ever held). Don’t worry we’ll be back in 2015 at Buddy Guy’s again - even bigger and better.
• Lending a national and local voice to pertinent advocacy issues such as the lack of quality in our neighborhoods by meeting with Congressman Davis and Representative Will Davis.
As we prepare to transition into 2015 a full calendar of Chapter activities and events have been confirmed. As Chapter President I am committed to continued transparency and working to take the organization to the next level. We are committed to putting together a more diverse Chapter Board. The newly appointed officers will be announced soon.
As an organization, NAHSE has a strong and powerful voice. That voice is only as strong as its members and is enhanced by your regular participation and contribution. There is still so much more work to do to progress diversity within health care and in the development of the 2020 vision. I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize the tireless efforts of our dearly departed treasurer - Cory Cooper. Special thanks also to Sherri Peavy the President-elect and shoulder for the organization. Shout-out the out going board members for your support as well.
