NAHSE CHICAGO CHAPTER WORK DURING COVID-19
During the COVID season, the NAHSE Chicago chapter has been actively engaged in supporting the community and providing resources in this fight against COVID.
COVID-19 has shed light on health inequities present in communities of color and has caused each of us to think about our health, wellness, and finances on a daily basis. Unfortunately, some families have had to manage dealing with unexpected loss of loved ones, including bread winners and parents. This financial burden has led to heightened levels of stress. In most cases, people with chronic conditions develop more severe symptoms and are at a higher risk of death. Our panelists will provide practical guidance to participants on managing stress, finances (estate planning), and risk factors for disease.
As many of the NAHSE Chicago members have been serving, directly, on the frontlines within the hospitals helping to save the lives of patients (including children) who have been infected with COVID, we’ve served witness to the highs and lows of patient outcomes.
NAHSE Chicago’s leadership team collaborated with its partners such as the American Heart Association, financial advisers, mental health counsels to present a timely virtual webinar entitled, “What COVID-19 has taught us about mental health, finances, and healthy lifestyle choice.” Over 50 participants joined us on a Saturday morning for this 90-minute webinar to learn more and ask questions and share how they have also been impacted.
Additionally, the Chicago chapter has provided over 300 masks to Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and nurses at some of the city’s hardest hit nursing homes. We have also launched a mask campaign to provide ongoing support of mask and other PPEs throughout the year to minimize the spread of COVID and other infectious diseases.
The NAHSE Chicago chapter will continue working with our partnership organizations to provide educational resources to our members and community to close the gap of healthcare disparities.
