Keisha Hankerson is a second year Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) Candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education during the spring of 2011 from University of Florida, where she specialized in Community Health. Keisha is a trained Health Educator and certified HIV Testing Counselor. In addition, she is a certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
From a young age Keisha realized the importance of academic excellence and the value of a good education. She went on to graduate in the top twenty percent of her high school class. After being accepted to the University Of Florida, Keisha was awarded a full scholarship and became the first person in her immediate family to obtain a bachelor degree and go on to pursue graduate level education.
Having a true passion for service, Keisha moved to Chicago, Illinois in August 2011 where she would commit to a year of doing HIV/AIDS volunteer work in the AIDS United AmeriCorps program. Keisha was placed at Project VIDA, a small community based organization in the Little Village community area of Chicago's West Side. At Project VIDA, Keisha created a sexual health social support group for young black females ages 12-24. Keisha conducted the program planning, implementation and evaluation of the Sista Trained in Awareness & Respect for Self (S.T.A.R.S) program. The S.T.A.R.S program curriculum was developed as an eight-session intervention promoting sexual health, community awareness, and self-esteem building.
Currently, Keisha is an Administrative Intern for Sinai Health System in Chicago Illinois, where she works closely with the Chief Operating Officer. Keisha has spent her time at Sinai working on various projects learning about market research, strategic planning, cost-saving initiatives, and system alignment. To display the culmination of her graduate experience, Keisha is working on a Breast Health Services System Alignment project that will create a corporate strategy to improve the breast health outcomes of the women served by Sinai Health System. If successful, this project could yield a one million dollar increase in revenue for Sinai Health System.
A leader in and out of the classroom, Keisha is the Vice President of the Association of Future Healthcare Administrators (AFHA) at UIC. She regularly volunteers at Deborah’s Place, a safe haven for displaced women on Chicago’s North Side.
